MADISON, N.J. (Sept. 21, 2016) — The Drew University men's soccer team tied 1-1 with The College of New Jersey on Wednesday night after regulation and two overtime periods.
By the Numbers: It was the first tie of the season for both teams moving Drew's record to 4-2-1 and the Lions record to 4-3-1.
Top Performers: Sophomore midfielder
Anthony McMyne scored the Rangers' only goal in the 11th minute of play. Freshman forward
Tyler Kwaak had a shot on goal, as did senior midfielder
Kevin Baroz, senior midfielder
Cole Leckburg, and sophomore defender
Marlon Rodriguez.
Turning Point: McMyne corralled a loose ball from a tight angle and falling down, snuck one past the goalie. McMyne's third goal of the season gave Drew a 1-0 lead 11 minutes in.
Other Highlights: The Lions tied things up when a deflected free kick came right back to the forward. He lofted a ball into the box to meet a streaking striker who used his head to tie the game with 10 minutes to go.
Near the end of the second overtime period senior midfielder
Joe Sollod got a foot on a loose ball with the goalie well out of his crease. The ball bounced toward the empty net but the second bounce took it over the crossbar.
Stat Sheet: TCNJ lined up for seven corner kicks in the second half to Drew's zero. The Lions also had the shot advantage, 21-12, including a 6-1 advantage in overtime over Drew.
Up Next: Drew kicks off all-important Landmark Conference action on Saturday when they travel to Elizabethtown College who went undefeated in conference play last year only to fall to Scranton in the championship. The conference opener is slated for a 3:30 p.m.
