MADISON, N.J. (Sept. 3, 2016) — The Drew University men's soccer team conceded defeat to Hood College in the opening Fall Fest game on Saturday night at Ranger Stadium, 2-1.
Top Performers: Sophomore midfielder
Zach Lipshitz notched his first career goal in the first half with a thunderous strike down the middle.
Turning Point: Just seconds after Hood's second score, Lipshitz unleashed a howitzer from 20 yards out, taking advantage of a lax Hood defensive effort and cutting the deficit in half. Sophomore midfielder
Max Correa set Lipshitz up, earning an assist. The goal was Lipshitz's first. Scoring would stall in the second half.
Other Highlights: Hood drew first blood in the 18
th minute. Several Blazers tailed a long ball down the middle. When it finally came down, the striker flicked a foot on it, deflecting it into the net and giving Hood the 1-0 lead.
With a minute to go in the first half, Hood drove downfield on the left sideline. Senior goalie
John Marques shimmied out to meet him but came up empty, resulting in an empty net try that Hood converted.
The very first run at the net the Rangers tried came off a lob from sophomore midfielder
Max Correa. Senior midfielder
Cole Leckburg had the first go. The goalie sprawled in front, producing a sharp deflection. Senior forward
Sebastien Etta-Ashu tried the comebacker but was called offside.
Up Next: Fall Fest concludes on Sunday when Drew squares off against the College of Mount Saint Vincent at 5:00 p.m. at Ranger Stadium.
