Two Goals In 90 Seconds Give #23 Rangers 2-1 Win Over Haverford

MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University men's soccer team found itself in an unfamiliar position against Haverford on Tuesday night.  The Rangers conceded the first goal.  However, that deficit didn't last long, as 23rd-ranked Drew (13-0-1) scored twice in an 85-second span to take the lead before holding on for a 2-1 win over the Fords (7-3-3) at Ranger Stadium.

Haverford went in front just four minutes into the contest, when Ben Clark headed one past Jason Adamo (Roxbury, N.J.) and into the lower right corner.  That tally snapped Adamo's 316:18 shutout streak, and marked the first time that the Rangers allowed the first goal since the TCNJ game on Sept. 20.

Drew wouldn't trail for long, though.  Just two minutes after the Haverford goal, Anthony McMyne (Succasunna, N.J.) scored the equalizer after a flurry in front.  Eighty-five seconds later, Tyler Kwaak (Hillsborough, N.J.) found an open Alexi Velazquez (Kearney, N.J.) at the edge of the box, and he put it home to give the Rangers a 2-1 lead.

Things settled down after the frenetic first eight minutes, and Drew took that 2-1 advantage into halftime.  The Rangers had a chance to extend their lead in the 82nd minute, but Andy Imoh's (Sugar Land, Texas) shot hit the post.  Haverford had one last opportunity after being awarded a free kick from 20 yards out in the waning seconds.  However, the attempt drifted wide, and Drew remained unbeaten with its 10th consecutive win.

McMyne became the 13th different Ranger to score a goal this season, while Velazquez's game-winner was his fourth of the year.  Aidan Cserhat (Taos, N.M.), meanwhile, saw his streak of nine straight games with a goal snapped.  Adamo (13-0-1) made three saves in the victory.  Jeremy Astesano (7-3-2) recorded five saves for the Fords.

After playing three straight and seven out of nine at home, the Rangers will hit the road for their next three.  Drew (4-0-0 Landmark) begins the stretch by visiting Susquehanna (4-7-2, 2-1-1 Landmark) at 4 p.m. on Saturday.  The Rangers will clinch a place in the Landmark Conference Tournament with a win.
