Scranton Posts 4-0 Win Over Drew

MADISON, N.J. -  Coming off its first Landmark Conference victory of the season on Saturday, the Drew University women's soccer team welcomed first-place Scranton to Ranger Stadium on Wednesday night.  The Rangers (6-7-0, 1-3-0 Landmark) were unable to come away with the victory, however, as the Royals (8-2-2, 4-0-0 Landmark) scored twice in each half to notch a 4-0 triumph.

Scranton began the scoring in the 24th minute, when Erica Licari knocked in a cross from Taylor Stevens.  Jamie Hreniuk, the Landmark's leading scorer, put in a rebound four minutes later to give the Royals a 2-0 halftime edge.  Hreniuk and Licari hooked up just 90 seconds into the second half, increasing Scranton's advantage to 3-0.  Licari then ripped a blast from the edge of the box into the right corner, making it 4-0 Scranton in the 50th minute.

Drew's best scoring chance came in the 62nd minute when Alex Gilgorri (Mount Plains, N.J.) had her attempt blocked before Shannon Miller's (Roxbury, N.J.) shot went high.  Alexa Simon (Farmingdale, N.Y.) fired another shot towards net in the 70th minute, but Scranton goalkeeper Colleen Berry made the stop to preserve the shutout.

Madison Dudziec (Stanhope, N.J.) (4-7-0) made four saves for the Rangers.  Berry (8-2-2), meanwhile, registered six saves (all in the first half) before being relieved by Sarah Coulson.  Licari finished with two goals and an assist, while Hreniuk also tallied a pair of goals.

On Saturday, Drew begins a three-game road trip with a 1 p.m. visit to Susquehanna (11-2-1, 3-1-0 Landmark).
