Complete Results

MADISON, N.J. -
The Drew University men's and women's swimming & diving teams opened the 2017-18 season by hosting Stevens at Kirby Pool on Saturday afternoon.  Despite a pair of event wins by Mal Vishwanath (Bangalore, India), the Ranger women fell to the Ducks by a 128-71 count.  The Drew men, meanwhile, got a pair of event wins from Michael Ma (Redwood City, Calif.) in a 150.5-49.5 loss.

Vishwanath posted NCAA-leading times in both the 1000 yard freestyle and 1650 yard freestyle.  Her 17:32.23 clocking in the 1650 freestyle was also an NCAA "B" qualifier, just the third NCAA-qualifying performance in program history.  Vishwanath's 1000-yard split was 10:33.29, which is also the best in the nation this season.  She also won the 500 yard freestyle in 5:19.86 and finished second (by one-hundredth of a second) in the 100 yard freestyle (55.02).

Stephanie Cushman (Brick, N.J.) and Jenny Stein (Calabasas, Calif.) went 1-2 in the 100 yard backstroke.  Cushman registered a time of 1:02.24, and Stein posted a 1:02.92 clocking.  Cushman also took second in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:14.91), while Stein added a second-place showing in the 50 yard freestyle (25.85).  In addition, Katie Jefferson (Kamuela, Hawaii) grabbed second place in the 100 yard butterfly (1:03.44) and Jamie Riffel (New Providence, N.J.) was second in the 200 yard freestyle (2:04.99).

On the men's side, Ma earned wins in the 100 backstroke (55.71) and 200 yard individual medley (2:00.54).  His 200 IM time is currently sixth-best in the nation.

Jack Mahoney (Erie, Pa.) took third in both the 50 freestyle (22.55) and 100 freestyle (49.52), while Alexandre Sannibale (South Pasadena, Calif.) also recorded a pair of third-place finishes.  He posted a time of 1:51.30 in the 200 freestyle and a 5:04.77 clocking in the 500 freestyle.  Matheus Macena (Sao Paulo, Brazil), meanwhile, was third in the 100 butterfly (53.76).

Drew will return to action with a pair of dual meets next weekend.  The Rangers visit Montclair State on Friday and King's on Saturday.
