Drew Stumbles Against Catholic

WASHINGTON – The Drew University women's soccer team concluded its three-game road trip with a visit to Catholic on Saturday afternoon.  Needing a victory to keep their Landmark Conference playoff hopes alive, the Rangers (6-9-1, 1-5-0 Landmark) suffered a 6-1 loss to the Cardinals (10-6-0, 4-2-0 Landmark) at Cardinal Stadium.

It was scoreless until the 35th minute, when Catholic's Maggie Moorcones put home a rebound to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.  After a goal on a penalty kick gave Catholic a 2-0 halftime edge, the Cardinals extended the margin to 4-0 with a pair of tallies 48 seconds apart at the 61-minute mark.  Leah Dentale (Northport, N.Y.) got the Rangers on the board in the 64th minute, but the Cardinals responded a minute later before adding another score late to make the final margin 6-1.

Dentale's goal was her fourth of the season, and she now leads the Rangers with 14 points.  Madison Dudziec (Stanhope, N.J.) (4-9-0) made four saves before being relieved by Brielle Castanheira (Roxbury, N.J.).  She recorded two saves over the final 20 minutes.

Moorcones and Elizabeth Johnson both scored twice for Catholic, and Moorcones added an assist.  Andrea Jablonskyj and Meghan Corso each contributed a goal, as well, while goalkeeper Ally Marcello (6-2-0) notched a pair of saves.

On Tuesday, Drew welcomes FDU-Florham (9-6-0) to Ranger Stadium at 7 p.m. for the annual "Battle of Madison."  The Rangers dropped a 1-0 double-overtime decision to the Devils last season.
