Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

#24 Rangers Stay Unbeaten, Knock Off Scranton 2-0

MADISON, N.J. -  In Saturday night's game at Moravian, the Drew University men's soccer team didn't get on the board until the 80th minute.  The Rangers didn't wait nearly that long on Wednesday night.  Aidan Cserhat (Taos, N.M.) scored in the seventh minute, then added another goal late, as 24th-ranked Drew (11-0-1, 3-0-0 Landmark) remained unbeaten with a 2-0 victory over two-time defending Landmark Conference champion Scranton (7-4-0, 1-2-0 Landmark) at Ranger Stadium.

"We always have Scranton on our minds," goalkeeper Jason Adamo (Roxbury, N.J.) said.  "They beat us last year in the semifinals and have won it the past two years, so it was a huge game."

It was the first meeting between the teams since that semifinal encounter, and Drew was quick to make sure that result wouldn't repeat itself, applying the offensive pressure from the start.  Anthony McMyne (Succasunna, N.J.) nearly put the Rangers on the board in the sixth minute, but his shot hit the post.  Ninety seconds later, Drew earned a free kick roughly 20 yards from the goal.  Cserhat stepped up and sent a beautiful bender over the wall and into the top left corner of the net for a 1-0 Drew lead.

"I just settled down, took my time, took a deep breath, and hit it the same way I do every day in practice," Cserhat said about the shot that extended his streak to eight straight games with a goal.

The Rangers were still leading 1-0 when they were whistled for a foul in the box in the 74th minute.  Jon Roberts took the penalty kick for Scranton and went on the ground to Adamo's right.  The Drew goalkeeper guessed correctly, though, and made the save to keep it 1-0.  Cserhat then gave the Rangers an insurance tally in the 88th minute when he headed in a volley from Max Correa (Belleville, N.J.).  It was his league-leading 15th goal of the season.

Adamo (11-0-1) recorded one additional save in his sixth shutout of the year.  Scranton goalkeeper Blake Hammert (4-3-0), meanwhile, stopped four Drew shots.

Drew continues its three-game homestand on Saturday, when Juniata (1-7-3, 0-2-1 Landmark) comes to Ranger Stadium for a 4 p.m. showdown.
