Rangers Topple Elizabethtown In Dual Meet

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. –
On Saturday afternoon, the Drew University men's and women's swimming & diving teams traveled to Landmark Conference rival Elizabethtown for a dual meet.  Drew's women improved to 3-3 on the season with a 147-100 triumph at the Alumni Pool.  The men's squad, meanwhile, notched its second straight win over a conference opponent, beating the Blue Jays by a 135-121 count.
 
Drew won 13 of the 14 events on the women's side, including every individual event.  The Rangers had three 1-2 sweeps and took the top three places in the 200 yard freestyle, with Katie Jefferson (Kamuela, Hawaii) claiming the victory in 2:06.51.  Eve Morel (Bourgogne, France) was second in 2:10.40, and Jamie Riffel (New Providence, N.J.) placed third in 2:11.22.  Morel later won the 100 yard butterfly in 1:03.32.
 
Jenny Stein (Calabasas, Calif.) and Stephanie Cushman (Brick, N.J.) each claimed three individual victories.  Stein finished first in the 50 yard freestyle (26.15), 100 yard freestyle (57.57) and 100 yard backstroke (1:02.86).  Cushman, meanwhile, earned victories in three different disciplines, taking first the 100 yard breaststroke (1:15.78), 200 yard backstroke (2:15.33) and 200 yard individual medley (2:23.92).  She was also on the Rangers' 200 yard medley relay squad that opened the meet with a win.
 
Mal Vishwanath (Bangalore, India) won both of her events, placing first in the 200 yard butterfly (2:11.02) and 500 yard freestyle (5:13.72).  Kate Circus (Mount Laurel, N.J.), meanwhile, finished first in the 200 yard breaststroke with a 2:49.54 clocking.  Audrey Keliehor (Wilton, Conn.) and Hailey Williams (Ocean City, Md.) went 1-2 in the 1000 yard freestyle.  Keliehor's time was 11:56.42, while Williams registered a time of 12:28.55.  Drew's other 1-2 sweep was in the 200 backstroke, where Riffel placed second in 2:19.92.
 
Things were a little tighter for the Drew men, although the Rangers did win 10 individual events and the 200 medley relay.  The Rangers had four 1-2 finishes, including a sweep of the top three places in the 500 freestyle.
 
Mack Fox (Randolph, N.J.) led the sweep with a 5:09.88 clocking.  Alexandre Sannibale (South Pasadena, Calif.) was second in 5:10.62, while Garrett Pilkington (West Milford, N.J.) took third in 5:21.64.  Fox (10:25.82) and Pilkington (10:49.63) also went 1-2 in the 1000 freestyle, and Sannibale earned the win in the 200 butterfly (2:09.84).  Jeremy Bradford (Seattle, Wash.) was second in that event with a time of 2:13.91.
 
Michael Ma (Redwood City, Calif.) secured three first-place finishes, winning the 100 backstroke (55.39), 200 breaststroke (2:16.03) and 200 individual medley (2:01.41).  Jack Mahoney (Erie, Pa.) took first in both of his individual events, putting up a time of 50.81 seconds in the 100 freestyle and a 1:50.60 clocking in the 200 freestyle.  Ryan Underwood (Etters, Pa.) placed second behind his teammate in the 100 freestyle (51.75).  Meanwhile, in the 50 freestyle, Matheus Macena (Sao Paulo, Brazil) grabbed first place in 23.02 seconds and Underwood was second with a 23.26-second clocking.
 
Drew concludes the 2017 portion of its schedule on Dec. 1-2 with the annual Ranger Invitational at Kirby Pool.
