Men's Hoops Falls at No. 19 Susquehanna in Game of Runs

SELINGSGROVE, Pa. (Feb. 11, 2017) – A seesaw Landmark Conference contest with 12 lead changes eventually tilted in the favor of No. 19 Susquehanna University, who downed the Drew University men's basketball team 85-74 on Saturday afternoon.
 
By The Numbers
The Rangers (11-12) are eliminated from Landmark Conference playoff contention by falling to 5-7 in league play, three games behind fourth place with just two games remaining. Susquehanna moves back into first place with a 10-2 Landmark record to go with a 20-3 overall mark.
 
Top Performers
• Freshman guard Riley Collins led the Rangers with 23 points on the strength of five 3-pointers, marking the sixth time this season the rookie had five or more triples. Now with 73 treys this season, he already ranks 10th all-time in Drew history for threes in a single season.
• Junior guard Yonathan Napoleon dropped 22 points and passed out five assists.
• Sophomore center Nate Aldrich picked up his ninth double-double of the year with 13 points and 10 rebounds. He rounded out a solid stat sheet with two assists, three steals and a block in 32 minutes of action.
 
Turning Point
Each team erased a double-digit deficit on Saturday. Drew was the first to mount a comeback after going down 15 and rattling off a 17-2 run over the final five minutes of the first half to tie the score at 39-39.
 
The Drew scoring run was stretched to 31-4 spanning halftime as the Rangers led by 12 points, 53-41, with 16:18 to play. It was then Susquehanna's turn to come back with a 15-3 run.
 
Highlights
• Collins' three-point play on the fast break started Drew's 17-2 run at the end of the first half.
• Aldrich's offensive rebound following Blaine Taylor's 1-of-2 from the line quickly found a wide open Napoleon, who buried the first of two straight three-pointers during the Rangers' 14-2 run to start the second half.
• The Rangers and River Hawks went back-and-forth with two 3-pointers apiece spanning four possessions. The score was tied 65-65 at the midway point of the second half.
• With the game knotted at 70-70 at the 5:56 mark, the River Hawks used a 14-2 run to pull away down the stretch.

• Susquehanna slightly outrebounded the Rangers, 42-39, while also holding an advantage in paint points, 40-26.
• The River Hawks shot 53 percent overall from the field with a 12-of-24 mark from downtown. Drew countered with a .415 overall percentage.
• The Rangers turned 16 Susquehanna turnovers into 19 points.
• Susquehanna showed its depth in the victory, benefitting from 37 bench points compared to Drew's seven.
