MADISON, N.J. (Feb. 15, 2017) — Despite a strong first half and a lead that lasted until the final few minutes, the Drew University men's basketball team dropped a Landmark Conference contest to third-place Moravian College, 87-80, after the Greyhounds went on a late-game run on Wednesday night in Baldwin Gymnasium.
Â
Top Performers:
• Junior guard
Yonathan Napoleon totaled a career-high 27 points on 9-of-16 from the field.
• Junior forward
Blaine Taylor put on a rebounding clinic, notching 15, washing out his old career high of 10.
• Sophomore centerÂ
Nate Aldrich, who ranks among the top five in the conference in field goal percentage, put up another efficient shooting effort on the night, going 6-of-9 from the field and tallying 14 points and nine rebounds.
• Freshman guard
Riley Collins, the highest scoring freshman in the Landmark Conference (16.3 PPG), notched 21 points in the contest, six rebounds, and five assists.
Turning Point: Moravian obtained its first lead with four minutes to go in the game, when their deep bench outlasted a progressively more fatigued Ranger squad. The teams went on to exchange one-point leads before Moravian popped two 3-pointers in a row and locked up the contest late.
Â
Other Highlights:
• Despite being on opposite sides of spectrum in the standings, the Rangers outmatched the Greyhounds offensively in the opening minutes of the contest. But careless passes in the front court mixed with alert Moravian defense kept things relatively close.
 • The Greyhounds backcourt defense was a weak point that Drew exploited quickly. Draining the open 3's that came after defensive lapses in focus. This success resulted in a wholesale line change from Moravian just five minutes in as they looked to address the problem that led to so many open shots. Drew's first-half success led to a 51-41 lead right out of the half.
Â
Stat Sheet:
• Moravian held the slight advantage on the boards 43-38.
• The Greyhounds were very successful from the charity stripe, making 18-of-22, while the Rangers sank 11-of-18.
