Men's Tennis Sweeps the Day vs. Rutgers-Camden & John Jay

MADISON, N.J. (March 18, 2017) – The Drew University men's tennis team scored a pair of 9-0 sweeps over Rutgers-Camden and John Jay College in a doubleheader inside the Simon Forum & Athletic Center on Saturday.
 
The Rangers improve to 9-1 on the season with the two victories on Saturday, with five of those wins coming via the perfect 9-0 score. Rutgers-Camden sees its record drop to 1-2, while John Jay falls to 0-2 early in its spring season.
 
Junior Salikh Gilmutdinov was a combined 4-0 throughout the day, outscoring his singles opponents 24-1 in two wins, and teaming with sophomore Will Morrison for a combined score of 16-5 at the top doubles spot against the Scarlet Raptors and the Bloodhounds.
 
Sophomore Vineet Vemulapally only lost a single game throughout one doubles and two singles matches. He beat Rutgers-Camden's No. 2 by a score of 6-0, 6-1 before sweeping John Jay at second singles 6-0, 6-0. He combined with freshman Geoffrey Diehl at No. 2 doubles against Camden for a perfect 8-0 triumph.
 
Diehl helped Drew remain perfect against John Jay through the top three singles spots with his 6-0, 6-0 victory. Sophomore Kevin Shulca (8-1 win), freshman Bryce Weizer (8-1 win) and freshman Lloyd Goldstein (8-0 win) finished off the Bloodhounds in singles play.
 
Weizer played fourth singles against the Raptors for a 6-0, 6-1 victory, followed by Shulca and sophomore Chris Thompson's straight-set wins at fifth and sixth singles, respectively. Shulca and Thompson also got a win at third doubles against John Jay, 8-1.
 
The doubles duo of sophomore Chris Morville and freshman Parker Diamond outscored opponents 16-0 on Saturday with wins against Rutgers-Camden in the No. 2 spot and John Jay at third doubles.
 
The Rangers have one more tune-up before Landmark Conference play against former Landmark member The United States Merchant Marine Academy on the road Thursday, March 23 at 4:00 p.m.
