Drew Stays Unbeaten, Knocks Off Whitman 3-2

NEWARK, N.J.-  Andy Imoh's (Sugar Land, Texas) goal in the 55th minute proved to be the game-winner, as the Drew University men's soccer team (4-0-1) notched a 3-2 victory over Whitman (1-4-0) in the final game of the Brick City Challenge at Rutgers-Newark's Alumni Field on Sunday.  Imoh was named to the All-Tournament Team, along with Niko Cserhat (Taos, N.M.) and Marlon Rodriguez (Belleville, N.J.).

After Drew played a 0-0 draw on Saturday afternoon, there were four goals in the first half on Sunday.  Noah Cavanaugh got Whitman on the board just four minutes into the contest before Aidan Cserhat (Taos, N.M.) scored the equalizer in the 13th minute.  Cavanaugh put the Blues back in front in the 32nd minute, but the Rangers responded almost immediately.  Alexi Velazquez (Kearny, N.J.) took a pass from Brian Cerri (Princeton, N.J.) and put it into the lower right corner to even the score at 2-2.

In the 55th minute, Imoh broke the deadlock when he was led into the box by Aidan Cserhat, then chipped one past the goalkeeper.  Whitman had a pair of late chances, but Jason Adamo (Roxbury, N.J.) made three second-half saves to preserve the 3-2 win.

Adamo (4-0-1) ended up with six saves overall in the victory.  Aidan Cserhat recorded a goal and an assist, and Max Correa (Belleville, N.J.) assisted on the Rangers' first goal.  Cavanaugh scored both Whitman goals, while starting goalkeeper Matt Reich made two first-half saves.  Jack Filipponi (0-2-0) took the loss after playing the second half and stopping one Drew shot.

The Rangers play four of their next five at home, starting with a 7 p.m. matchup against Muhlenberg (2-0-1) on Wednesday.
