Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Racine’s Goal Gives Drew Season-Opening Win

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J.- Sarah Racine (Kinnelon, N.J.) scored in the 33rd minute to lift the Drew University women's soccer team (1-0-0) past Coast Guard (0-1-0) in its 2017 season opener on Friday afternoon.  The contest was played at Centenary University's J.E. Reeves Jr. Field as a part of the Cyclones Kickoff Classic.

With just under 13 minutes remaining in the first half, Leah Dentale (Northport, N.Y.) had a shot blocked out of bounds for a Drew corner kick.  Caroline Kelly (Livingston, N.J.) took the corner and fired it at the net.  Coast Guard goalkeeper Rachel Boohar made the stop, but it went right back to Kelly, who found Racine for her first collegiate tally.

That would prove to be the difference, as Drew's defense held Coast Guard without a shot on goal in the second half.  For the game, the Rangers outshot the Bears 12-8.

Madison Dudziec (Stanhope, N.J.) (1-0-0) played the first half in goal and earned the win, while Brielle Castanheria (Roxbury, N.J.) finished off the shutout.  Boohar (0-1-0) tallied five saves for Coast Guard.

Drew wraps up the Cyclones Kickoff Classic on Saturday with a 1 p.m. matchup against host Centenary (1-0-0).  The Cyclones notched a 6-1 victory over Lehman in the other game on Friday.
