HACKETTSTOWN, N.J.- An overtime penalty kick by Centenary's Emily Pizzuto proved to be the difference on Saturday afternoon, as the Drew University women's soccer team (1-1-0) suffered a 2-1 loss to the host Cyclones (2-0-0) at J.E. Reeves, Jr. Field in the finale of the Cyclones Kickoff Classic.
Centenary took a 1-0 lead into halftime after Brooke Carty's goal in the 22
nd minute. The Rangers responded early in the second half, however, as
Alex Gilgorri (Mount Plains, N.J.) ripped one into the lower left corner to tie the game. It was still deadlocked early in the extra period, when the Cyclones were awarded a penalty kick. Pizzuto converted the attempt, slipping it past
Madison Dudziec (Stanhope, N.J.) to give Centenary a 2-1 win.
Dudzeic (1-1-0) and
Brielle Castanheira (Roxbury, N.J.) split time in goal. Dudzeic made three saves, while Castanheria stopped five Centenary shots. The Rangers fired 13 shots on Centenary goalkeeper Kaitlin Marold (2-0-0), who tallied three saves.
Drew begins its home schedule on Wednesday, when Manhattanville (0-0-1) visits Ranger Stadium for a 4:30 p.m. matchup.
