Drew Starts Conference Play With Dominant 6-0 Triumph

MADISON, N.J. -  The Drew University men's soccer team averaged a nation-leading 4.13 goals per game over its first eight contests of 2017.  In the Landmark Conference opener on Saturday afternoon, it was more of the same.  Five different Rangers scored goals, as Drew (8-0-1, 1-0-0 Landmark) knocked off Elizabethtown (5-3-0, 0-1-0 Landmark) by a 6-0 count at Ranger Stadium.

It was the Rangers' fourth shutout (and third 6-0 triumph) of the season.  The Rangers also topped the five-goal mark for the fifth time this year.

"We came out for warmups, we had a fire in us, and I really think we brought it," goalkeeper Jason Adamo (Roxbury, N.J.) said.  "It was the first conference game of the year, so it was obviously a big game, and I just think we played outstanding."

Drew's first goal came in the 19th minute when a corner kick was headed into the net by an Elizabethtown defender.  Max Correa (Belleville, N.J.) made it 2-0 with a 42nd-minute penalty kick, and the Rangers took that two-goal advantage into halftime.

In the second half, the Rangers added four more, starting with Matt Asante's (Staten Island, N.Y.) header in the 51st minute.  Four minutes later, Cole Bosch (Fair Lawn, N.J.), who had the assist on Asante's tally, picked up a goal of his own on a beautiful run down the left side.  Andy Imoh (Sugar Land, Texas) got into the act when he put in Anthony McMyne's (Succasunna, N.J.) corner kick in the 68th minute, then Aidan Cserhat (Taos, N.M.) capped the scoring with his 11th tally of the year 10 minutes later.  Cserhat has now scored in five straight games.

Eight different Rangers recorded points in the game, with Bosch notching a goal and an assist.  Adamo (8-0-1) tallied five saves in the shutout.  Brian Gately (5-3-0) made four saves for Elizabethtown, and Josh Jarrett added one stop, as the Rangers outshout the Blue Jays 24-10.

On Tuesday, Drew returns to action with a 4 p.m. contest against NYU (5-0-1) at Ranger Stadium.
