Two Late Goals Push Elizabethtown Past Drew

MADISON, N.J. -  The Drew University women's soccer team opened Landmark Conference play against Elizabethtown on Saturday afternoon.  The Rangers (5-3-0, 0-1-0 Landmark) held a 1-0 lead at halftime, but the Blue Jays (4-2-1, 1-0-0 Landmark) scored twice in a 6:21 span in the second half to earn a 2-1 victory at Ranger Stadium.

Drew opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Meghan McDermott (Commack, N.Y.) found Leah Dentale (Northport, N.Y.), who turned a put a cross-body shot into the left corner.  It remained that way until the 74th minute after a Drew handball in the box gave Elizabethtown a penalty kick, and Lydia Lawson converted to tie the score.  Ally Lasky then gave the Blue Jays the lead a little more than six minutes later.  The Rangers had one last scoring opportunity in the 89th minute, but Alex Gilgorri's (Mount Plains, N.J.) attempt was blocked.

Dentale's goal was her second of the season, while McDermott was credited with her third assist.  Madison Dudziec (Stanhope, N.J.) (3-3-0) made two saves in defeat.  Elizabethtown's Hailey Parks (4-2-1), meanwhile, tallied one save.

With the 2-1 victory, Elizabethtown snapped Drew's three-game winning streak.  This also marks the second straight year in which the Blue Jays posted a one-goal win over the Rangers in the Landmark opener.

On Wednesday night, Drew welcomes 17th-ranked Stevens (5-1-1) to Ranger Stadium for a 7 p.m. matchup.
