Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

First-Place Rangers Stay Hot, Top Elizabethtown

MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University men's basketball team (12-4, 5-0 Landmark) maintained its hold on first place in the Landmark Conference with an 84-54 victory over Elizabethtown (3-12, 0-5 Landmark) at Baldwin Gymnasium on Wednesday night in the final contest of a three-game homestand.  The Rangers have now won six in a row and 10 of their last 11 games.

Elizabethtown took an early 6-0 lead on a pair of three-pointers before Drew went on a 23-5 run to open up a 12-point, 23-11 cushion with 7:21 remaining in the first half.  After the Blue Jays trimmed the margin to nine, 32-23, at the 3:21 mark, the Rangers ended the half on an 11-2 spurt to extend their advantage to 18 points, 43-25, at the break.

Drew's lead reached 21 points when a Yonathan Napoleon (Los Angeles, Calif.) trey made it 50-29 with 17:13 left, but Elizabethtown rallied for seven of the next 10 points to pull within 53-36.  The margin was still 17 points, 66-49, when Napoleon drained a three-pointer to spark a game-ending 18-5 rally.  Bobby Ganges (New Brunswick, N.J.) scored the final three points at the free throw line, as the Rangers closed out an 84-54 triumph.

Napoleon tallied 18 of his game-high 20 points in the second half, while Dan Roibal (Middletown, N.J.) registered 13 first-half points.  Roibal added six rebounds and three steals.  Nate Aldrich (Franklinville, N.J.) finished with nine points, 11 rebounds and three blocks, and Riley Collins (Lacey, N.J.) also contributed nine points.  Sky Harris (Edison, N.J.), meanwhile, posted eight points off the bench.  Chatham Studer (Redding, Conn.) and Malachi Walker (Fords, N.J.) each grabbed six rebounds, as the Rangers held a 49-29 edge on the glass.  In addition, Walker notched three of Drew's season-high eight blocks.  The Rangers shot 45.2 percent (28-of-62) from the field, 42.9 percent (9-of-21) from three-point land, and 73.1 percent (19-of-26) at the charity stripe.

Bryce Greene led the Blue Jays with 18 points.  Josh Christ posted nine points, four rebounds and three blocks, while Michael Pastore and Brandon Berry tallied eight points apiece.  Ethan DuBois handed out four assists for Elizabethtown, which shot 34.4 percent (21-of-61) from the floor.  The Blue Jays were 8-for-21 (38.1 percent) from long range and 4-for-7 (57.1 percent) at the free throw line.

After three straight home games, Drew will play four of its next five contests on the road.  The Rangers begin the stretch with a 2 p.m. matchup at Susquehanna (6-9, 3-2 Landmark) on Saturday.
