Drew Knocks Off Susquehanna For Seventh Straight Win

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The hot-shooting Drew University men's basketball team set season-highs in field goals, field goal percentage and three-point percentage on Saturday afternoon.  The Rangers (13-4, 6-0 Landmark) also scored a season-high 98 points, as they recorded their seventh consecutive victory, 98-65 over Susquehanna (6-10, 3-3 Landmark) at Houts Gymnasium.

After Drew raced out to an early 10-6 lead, Susquehanna went on a 9-0 run to open up a five-point advantage, 15-10.  The River Hawks were still on top, 22-17, at the 13:49 mark when a layup by Darius Reiter (Littleton, Colo.) started a 24-0 rally that put the Rangers in front, 41-22.  An Adam Dizbon trey briefly halted the Rangers' rally before another Reiter layup with 6:16 left in the half sparked another scoring spurt.  Drew ended the half by scoring 16 of the final 20 points, including the last 10, to build a 28-point cushion, 57-29.

It was the Rangers' highest-scoring half of the season, and Drew shot a blistering 71.9 percent (23-of-32) from the field in the opening 20 minutes, including 77.8 percent (7-of-9) from three-point range.  Including free throws, Drew made 20 of its final 25 shots in the half.

A pair of Riley Collins (Lacey, N.J) three-pointers extended the margin to 34 points, 63-29, just 90 second into the second half, and the lead reached a game-high 35 when Nate Aldrich's (Franklinville, N.J.) layup made it 74-39 with 14:00 left.  Susquehanna pulled within 20 at 85-65 with 4:31 remaining, but Drew scored the final 13 points of the game, capping the 98-65 victory with a Miles Lewis (Fair Lawn, N.J.) layup at the 1:31 mark.  The 98 points were Drew's most in a game since a 117-point explosion against Mount Aloysius on Jan. 2, 2017.

Collins paced the Rangers with 24 points and five assists.  Reiter finished with 13 points and five rebounds, while Aldrich notched 12 points, eight boards and three blocks.  Mike Boice (Lanoka Harbor, N.J.) recorded 14 points off the bench, and Yonathan Napoelon (Los Angeles, Calif.) tallied 10 points to go along with five rebounds and five assists.  Dan Roibal (Middletown, N.J.) grabbed six rebounds, as Drew held a 48-24 advantage on the glass.  The Rangers shot 62.3 percent (38-of-61) from the field and 72.2 percent (13-of-18) from long range.  As a team, Drew went 9-for-13 (69.2 percent) at the free throw line.

Seth Callahan registered 14 points to lead the River Hawks.  Dizbon added 12 points, and Bryce Butler contributed 10 points.  Jacob Walsh tallied eight points to go along with a team-high four rebounds, while Tyler Hoagland handed out five assists.  Susquehanna shot 33.8 percent (23-of-68) from the floor, 46.4 percent (13-of-28) from three-point land, and 66.7 percent (6-of-9) at the charity stripe.

First-place Drew returns to action on Wednesday night with a 7 p.m. matchup at second-place Scranton (8-9, 4-2 Landmark), the defending Landmark Conference champions.
