Rangers Drop 12-7 Decision at Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – On Saturday afternoon, the Drew University men's lacrosse team played its first road game of the season at Vassar.  With a steady rain falling throughout the contest, the Rangers (0-2) fell to the Brewers (1-0) by a 12-7 count at Weinberg Field.

It was a 2-2 game after the first quarter, but Vassar outscored Drew 5-1 in the second period to take a 7-3 halftime lead.  After the Brewers made it 8-3 early in the third quarter, the Rangers got back-to-back goals from Kevin Goettlich (Florham Park, N.Y.) and Seamus O'Connor (Portsmouth, R.I.) to pull within 8-5.  However, Vassar responded with four of the next five tallies to push its advantage to 12-6 before O'Connor closed out the scoring in the final minute.

O'Connor and Goettlich had two goals apiece, while Ryan D'Alessandro (Glen Ridge, N.J.) notched a goal and three assists to go along with four ground balls.  Jack Crowley (Madison, N.J.) and Kyle MacDonnell (Niantic, Conn.), meanwhile, each recorded a goal and an assist.  Nate Sanders (Annapolis, Md.) (0-2) made eight saves in goal before giving way to Mike McGeeney (Annapolis, Md.), who tallied a save in the fourth quarter.

For Vassar, Michael Mullen and James Thomas each finished with three goals and an assist.  Dekker Stebel had two goals and two assists, while Matthew Lowery recorded a goal and an assist.  He also picked up nine ground balls and won 13 faceoffs.  Goalkeeper Matt Boyd (1-0) stopped seven Drew shots.
