Crowley’s Big Night Not Enough Against Maritime

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – Jack Crowley (Madison, N.J.) scored seven goals, including two in man-up situations, for the Drew University men's lacrosse team on Wednesday night.  However, despite Crowley's heroics, the Rangers (0-3) came up on the short end of a 17-11 decision against Maritime (2-0) at Reinhart Field.

After Maritime scored the first three goals of the game, Crowley netted his first tally off an assist from Kevin Goettlich (Florham Park, N.J.) late in the first quarter.  Greg Swenson (East Lyme, Conn.) also found the back of the net in the final minute of the period, but the Privateers' Matt DeMeo scored with one second left in the quarter to make it 5-2 in favor of Maritime.

Drew cut it to 5-4 on goals by Crowley and Thomas Ensmenger (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) early in the second quarter before a pair of tallies Nick Pellegrino brought the Privateers' lead back to three at 7-4.  It was 8-5 Maritime at halftime, and the Privateers extended that cushion to 12-8 at the end of the third quarter.  After Maritime increased its lead to 14-8, Crowley scored three times in little more than a minute to cut the Rangers' deficit to three, 14-11, with 8:05 remaining.  The Privateers recorded the final three goals of the game, though, to close out a 17-11 victory.

Ryan D'Alessandro (Glen Ridge, N.J.) assisted on four of Crowley's goals, while Swenson and Ensmenger each had a goal and an assist.  Joe Palimeri (Guilford, Conn.), meanwhile, went 20-for-27 on face offs and picked up 13 ground balls.  Kyle MacDonnell (Niantic, Conn.) added five ground balls, as Drew held a 38-29 edge in that category.  Nate Sanders (Annapolis, Md.) (0-3) played the first half in goal and made six saves.  Mike McGeeney (Annapolis, Md.) recorded two saves in the second half.

Pellegrino had six goals and added four ground balls for the Privateers.  DeMeo also recorded a hat trick, while Danny Connell tallied four points on two goals and two assists.  Ian Danahy and T.J. Ragusa each scored twice, and Joey Manno secured a team-best seven ground balls.  Goalkeeper Brendan McNally (2-0) posted 11 saves.

On Saturday afternoon, the Rangers return to action with a 12 p.m. matchup at Centenary (1-1).
