Rangers Roll Past Rutgers-Newark, Pratt

MADISON, N.J. –
The Drew University men's tennis team posted a pair of dominant wins at the Simon Forum on Thursday.  After dispatching Rutgers-Newark (0-3) by a 9-0 count, the Rangers (7-1) earned another 9-0 triumph over Pratt (0-1).  Drew has now posted three consecutive 9-0 wins.
 
In Drew's match against Rutgers-Newark, Vineet Vemulapally (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Geoffrey Diehl (West Hartford, Conn.) stayed undefeated at No. 1 doubles with an 8-2 victory over Brandon Davis and Veer Kachhiapatel.  Karel Raska (Morristown, N.J.) and Bryce Weizer (Orwigsburg, Pa.) beat Richard Nguyen and Kevin Martin 8-2 in the No. 2 position, while the Rangers' No. 3 tandem of Will Morrison (San Diego, Calif.) and Chris Thompson (Bethlehem, Pa.) earned their first win as partners with a dominant 8-0 win over Alan Yu and Vihang Patel.
 
After falling behind 4-2 at No. 1 singles, Vemulapally won the last six games to notch an 8-4 victory over Davis.  Diehl clinched the match with an 8-0 triumph over Kachhiapatel at No. 2 singles, while Morrison defeated Nguyen 8-3 in the No. 3 position.  Kennedy, Drew's No. 4, also registered an 8-3 win, knocking off Martin, and Raska topped Yu 8-2 at No. 5 singles.  Lloyd Goldstein (New Providence, N.J.) completed the sweep by beating Patel 8-1 in the No. 6 spot.
 
Against Pratt, the Rangers used a slightly different lineup.  Kennedy teamed with Diehl at No. 1 doubles, and the tandem knocked off Ben Erickson and Simon Salazar by an 8-2 count.  At No. 2 doubles, Raska and Weizer stayed earned their second win of the day, 8-1, over Taeyoung Chang and Johnson Meng.  Goldstein, meanwhile, played No. 3 doubles with Thompson, with the pair topping Leo Yang and Aris Azarmsa 8-2.
 
At No. 1 singles, Vemulapally registered an 8-2 triumph over Erickson.  Morrison moved up to No. 2 singles against Pratt and earned an 8-1 victory over Chen.  Kennedy needed a tiebreak before beating Salazar 8-7 (8-6) in the No. 3 position, while Goldstein beat Meng 8-3 in the No. 4 spot.  Drew won 8-0 at both No. 5 and No. 6 singles.  Thompson knocked off Yang at No. 5, and No. 6 Weizer closed out the victory with his win over Chang.
 
Drew hits the road for each of its next two matches, starting with a 3:30 p.m. tilt at Albright (2-7) on Tuesday.  The Ranger and Lion women's teams will also square off on Tuesday.
