Drew Men, Women Shut Out Albright

Results: Men | Women

READING, Pa. –
On Tuesday, the Drew University men's and women's tennis teams traveled to Albright for a non-conference tilt.  The Ranger men (8-1) defeated the Lions (2-8) by a 9-0 count, while the Drew women (4-2) posted an 8-0 win over Albright (0-8) at the Albright College Tennis Courts.

After teaming with Vineet Vemulapally (Boca Raton, Fla.) to an 8-0 victory over Dyland Okonski and Noah Jessie at No. 1 doubles, Geoffrey Diehl (West Hartford, Conn.) beat Okonski by a score of 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.  Will Morrison (San Diego, Calif.) and Bryce Kennedy (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) earned an 8-5 win over Dylan Rutt and Zach Schultheis at No. 2 doubles, and they each recorded a straight-sets singles triumph to clinch the match for the Rangers.  Morrison beat Jessie 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 2 position, while Kennedy topped Rutt 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 3 spot.

Karel Raska (Morristown, N.J.) also registered a pair of victories.  He knocked off Schultheis 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles and played alongside Bryce Weizer (Orwigsburg, Pa.) at No. 3 doubles, with the tandem topping Brody Brown and David Sylvester 8-1.  Lloyd Goldstein (New Providence, N.J.) beat Brown 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 singles, while No. 6 Chris Thompson (Bethlehem, Pa.) secured an 8-2 victory over Sylvester.

Drew began the women's match with a 2-0 lead by virtue of Albright defaults at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.  Ty Ty Witten (New Haven, Conn.) also won by forfeit at No. 2 singles, putting the Rangers up 3-0.

Witten paired with Ashley Camel (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) to post an 8-5 victory over Mara Trifoli and Amanda Camporeale at No. 1 doubles, while Drew clinched the match with Christina Christodoulou (Branchburg, N.J.) and Xylia Bruff's (South Plainfield, N.J.) 8-0 triumph over Samantha Stichman and Mary-Angelina Kramer at No. 2 doubles.

Kathryn Swenor (Basking Ridge, N.J.) topped Kramer by an 8-0 count at No. 4 singles, and Sarah Noel Jeune (Orange, N.J.) earned an 8-0 win over Victoria Metzinger in the No. 5 position.  The No. 3 singles match was played in the standard three-set format, with Maria Navas Espinal (Valle, Colombia) topping Stichman 6-1, 6-0.  Play was stopped in the No. 1 singles match between Camel and Trifoli due to rain with Camel leading 6-4, 1-4.  Because the overall result was already decided, the match will remain unfinished.

The Rangers begin their Landmark Conference schedule on Friday, when they visit Moravian at 3 p.m.
