Rangers Top Delaware Valley For Second Straight Victory

MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University men's lacrosse team (3-6) jumped out a 6-0 halftime lead before posting an eventual 10-4 triumph over Delaware Valley (2-7) at Ranger Stadium on Saturday afternoon.  With the win, the Rangers have now recorded consecutive victories for the first time this season.

Drew set the tone early on, getting a pair of man-up tallies from Jack Crowley (Madison, N.J.) in the first quarter.  The Rangers went 3-for-3 with the man advantage in the first half, as Crowley assisted on a man-up goal by Kyle MacDonnell (Niantic, Conn.) that made it 4-0 with 11:14 left in the second quarter.  Seamus O'Connor (Portsmouth, R.I.) then found the back of the net twice to increase Drew's advantage to 6-0 at the break.

After MacDonnell increased the lead to 7-0 midway through the third quarter, Delaware Valley rallied for three straight goals to pull within 7-3 at the end of the period.  However, the Rangers responded with a pair of tallies early in the fourth before Devin Lyons (Hackettstown, N.J.) closed out the scoring in the 10-4 triumph.

Four different Rangers had two goals apiece, led by MacDonnell's two goals and two assists.  He also collected three ground balls.  Crowley recorded two goals and an assist, while Lyons and O'Connor and each scored twice.  Ryan Delgado (Bridgewater, N.J.), meanwhile, corralled five ground balls.  Nate Sanders (Annapolis, Md.) (3-6) faced 34 shots, stopping 16.

Jordan Smith recorded two tallies for the Aggies.  Matt Waibel had a goal and an assist, while Dylan Brasch recorded the other Delaware Valley goal.  Jerad Wilson picked up a game-high seven ground balls, as the Aggies held a 29-28 edge in that category.  Nic Brown (2-3) got the start in net and took the loss.  He surrendered six goals and made five saves.  Gaving Yingling played the second half, allowing four goals and stopping six Drew shots.

On Tuesday, the Rangers continue their three-game homestand with a 7 p.m. matchup against Montclair State (3-3).  The contest was originally set for March 10, but postponed due to weather and field conditions.
