Fourth Quarter Comeback Falls Short at Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Drew University men's lacrosse team scored the final four goals of the game at Moravian on Saturday afternoon.  However, the Rangers (3-9, 0-3 Landmark) ran out of time in their comeback effort, as the Greyhounds (5-5, 1-2 Landmark) held on for an 11-7 victory at John Makuvek Field.

Moravian built a 6-0 lead before Seamus O'Connor (Portsmouth, R.I.) scored a man-up tally with 5:21 remaining in the first half.  The Greyhounds held a 7-1 edge at the break and increased that advantage to 11-2 early in the fourth quarter.

Thomas Garner (Farmingdale, N.Y.) started the Rangers' comeback effort with a man-down goal at the 11:21 mark of the fourth quarter.  Ryan D'Alessandro (Glen Ridge, N.J.) and O'Connor then each found the back of the net less than two minutes apart to pull Drew within 11-5.  Kyle MacDonnell (Niantic, Conn.) and Kevin Goettlich (Florham Park, N.J.) added late tallies, but the Rangers fell by an 11-7 count.

O'Connor paced the Rangers with three goals, and he also had an assist.  Joe Palmieri (Guilford, Conn.) went 12-for-17 on faceoffs and collected 10 ground balls, while Jonny Bronander (Glen Ridge, N.J.) secured four ground balls.  Mike McGeeney (Annapolis, Md.) (0-1) made his first career start in goal and tallied 14 saves.

James Carroll finished with four goals and an assist for the Greyhounds.  He also had three ground balls.  Mark Laratta contributed three goals and an assist, while Cade Siddron added two goals, an assist and three ground balls.  Rick Guerra picked up a team-best six ground balls, as Moravian held a 36-24 edge in that category.  Goalkeeper Kurt Dick (2-2) registered 15 saves.
