Late Goals Vault No. 12 Rangers Over Marymount

MADISON, N.J. - The 12th-ranked Drew University men's soccer team pulled away late for a 4-0 victory over Marymount University in its season opener Friday evening in Ranger Stadium at the Drew Fall Festival. The Rangers, coming off a banner season a year ago, scored all of their goals over the final 27 minutes, including three in the last 12 minutes.

Turning Point: Despite the 0-0 gridlock for most of the contest, Drew was providing constant offensive pressure for the duration of the game. Senior Anthony McMyne finally found the back of the net, booting in a cross from senior Max Correa in the 64th minute.

Top Performers: Junior Aidan Cserhat, a returning First Team All-American, had a hand in each of Drew's final three tallies, posting two goals and one assist. Senior Alexi Velazquez added one goal and one assist. Cserhat, junior Matt Asante, and sophomore Nate Race were dominant offensively, combining for 17 shots. Junior goalie Jason Adamo made a pair of saves to come away with the shutout.

Other Highlights: In the 79th minute, Cserhat outworked several defenders to net his first goal, making it 2-0. In the 85th minute, Velazquez pushed it to 3-0 off of a fantastic dish from Cserhat. Then in the 87th minute, Velasquez returned the favor to Cserhat, giving him a beautiful pass for the fourth goal to end the contest.
