HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - Senior
Alexis Castanheira scored a pair of goals and the Drew University women's soccer team (1-1) gathered its first victory of the year with a 4-0 victory over Centenary University at the Centenary Cyclones Kickoff Classic Saturday afternoon.
The Difference - The Rangers took control with a dominant first half and scored less than four minutes into the game on Castanheira's first tally. Drew didn't stop there, striking two more times in the opening stanza on tallies from senior
Alex Gilgorri and freshman Mary Lout to assume a 3-0 halftime lead.
Top Performers - Castanheira needed just three shots to net the first two goals of her collegiate career. Gilgorri added one goal and one assist. Lout, sophomore
Sarah Racine (one assist), and freshman
Erin Fitzgerald (one assist) also contributed offensively. Sophomore
Madison Dudziec played the opening 67 minutes and made three saves before junior
Brielle Castanheira stopped two shots over the final 23 minutes.
By The Numbers - Drew outshot Centenary 24-12 and put 15 shots on frame. The Rangers were called for 14 fouls while the Cyclones were whistled for just four infractions. Drew earned a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.
