MADISON, N.J. – The Rangers led 1-0 for most of the game, then pulled away with three late tallies and the Drew University women's soccer team earned its 300th program victory with a 4-0 win over Delaware Valley University in non-conference women's soccer action Friday evening in Ranger Stadium.
Turning Point: Sophomore
Leah Dentale gave the Rangers (5-1-1) all the scoring they would need when she struck in the third minute, dribbling around several defenders and beating the goalie 1-on-1 with a shot into the right side of the net.
Late Flurry: Despite dominating possession throughout the game, Drew still led by only a goal heading into the final 11 minutes. That all changed when the Blue and Green erupted for three goals the rest of the way. Senior
Alex Gilgorri initiated the spurt in the 79th minute, taking a feed from classmate
Caroline Kelly and blasting in a long-range shot for her third goal of the year. Sophomore
Sarah Racine followed up in the 86th minute, cutting back on a defender and looping a shot over the keeper for her team-leading fifth goal of the season. Classmate
Lauren Cassella set the final score, beating the goalie to the near post with just 23 seconds left.
Between the Pipes: Sophomore
Madison Dudziec needed to make just one save to earn her third shutout of the season. Haley Young stopped 15 shots for the Aggies (2-3).
Stat Sheet: The Rangers racked up a 37-3 shot advantage and a 10-1 surplus in corner kicks.
300 Club: Drew's all-time record now stands at 300-239-45 since its inception in 1987. Current head coach
Christa Racine has directed the Rangers to all but 48 of the program's victories.
Up Next: Drew has a seven-day layoff before playing its Landmark Conference opener on Saturday, Sept. 22, when it visits Goucher College at 4 p.m.
