MADISON, N.J. – Junior
Aidan Cserhat scored a pair of second-half goals and the Drew University men's soccer team rallied from a halftime deficit to beat Catholic University 2-1 in a Landmark Conference (LC) men's soccer match Saturday afternoon in Ranger Stadium. It was the fifth victory in a row for Drew (8-2, 2-0 LC), which has won its last 10 Landmark Conference regular-season games, dating back to the 2016 season.
The Difference: In the 79th minute, junior
Matt Asante sent a beautiful pass forward from beyond midfield. The ball deflected off a defender to Cserhat, who from the right side rifled home a shot from well outside the box. It was the ninth goal of the year for Cserhat and his third game-winner.
The Equalizer: Catholic (4-4, 1-1 LC) assumed an early 1-0 lead on an own goal and carried its advantage into the intermission. But in the 60th minute, Cserhat hauled in a long pass from sophomore defender
Ryan LaRocca at the top of the box and belted in a goal into the near post.
Tough Defense: Drew allowed just eight shots, and only four were on frame. Junior keeper
Jason Adamo finished with four saves for the Rangers.
Stats Sheet: The Rangers outshot the Cardinals 16-8 for the game and held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks. Catholic was called for nine more fouls than Drew (16-7), and the Cardinals were charged with the game's only two yellow cards.
Up Next: The Rangers continue their Landmark Conference schedule next Saturday, when they visit Elizabethtown College at 1 p.m. in a rematch of last year's conference championship game.
