MADISON, N.J. – Susquehanna University rallied from seven points down in the second half and handed the Drew University women's basketball team a 55-49 setback in Landmark Conference (LC) action Wednesday evening in Baldwin Gym. Sophomore guard
Julia Ramos led the Rangers (8-5, 1-2 LC) with 15 points while sophomore forward
Erin Frederick tossed in 13 points.
How it Happened: Drew led 24-23 at halftime, then extended its advantage to 30-23 with 6:42 remaining in the third quarter. It was a 32-25 game a minute later before the River Hawks (5-8, 2-1 LC) went on a 12-2 run and led 39-37 heading into the final period. Drew trailed just 48-44 with 4:13 to go after a lay-up from Ramos, but Susquehanna answered with the next four points to make it an eight-point game with 2:14 showing. Ramos cut the deficit to five with a conventional 3-point play with 1:57 to go, but the Hawks pulled away as they held the Rangers scoreless on their next three possessions.
Top Performers: Ramos scored in double figures for the fifth game in a row while adding five assists. Frederick also hit double digits in scoring for the fifth consecutive outing. Freshman forward
Lauren Cruse pitched in with eight points and five rebounds while classmate
Nashdah Noel posted seven points and five boards. Sadie Comfort scored 16 points for Susquehanna while Erin McQuillen notched 14 points and eight assists.
Stat Sheet: It was an evenly-played game from a statistical standpoint. The Rangers shot 36.7 percent from the field while Susquehanna shot 37.5 percent. Both sides pulled down 38 rebounds and committed 15 turnovers. Drew took just five foul shots, making two, while the River Hawks went 7-for-12 at the line.
