Magnus Loeffler opened his collegiate career with a school record and senior
Michael Ma won three individual events as the Drew University men's swimming & diving team defeated host Montclair State University 165-112 on Friday evening.
Loeffler registered a winning score of 291.20 in the 1-meter dive (six dives), which exceeded the former Drew standard by 78 points and was also an NCAA Division III qualifying score.
For the meet, the Rangers captured 10 of 16 events, with Ma touching first in the 100-breaststroke (1:01.75), 200-backstroke (2:06.27), and 200-IM (2:01.25).
Junior
Matheus Macena added a 2.83-second victory in the 100-backstroke (57.43), while freshman
Harrison Neal also posted a convincing victory in his collegiate debut, capturing the 200-breaststroke by over five seconds in 2:19.73). Also prevailing were sophomore
Josh Roberts in the 200-freestyle (1:47.97) and junior
Alexandre Sannibale in the 500-freestyle (5:09.40).
The Rangers also won both relays. In the 200-medley, Macena, Ma, Neal, and senior
Jack Mahoney won in 1:52.24 while sophomore
Jake Zajdzinski, Roberts, freshman
Jeffrey Crouse, and Mahoney touched first in 3:22.21.
Drew returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 19, when they take on Landmark Conference foe Catholic University in their home opener starting at noon.
