Haverford Slips by Rangers

MADISON, N.J. - The Rangers doubled up Haverford in shots, but a 52nd-minute goal lifted the Fords to a 1-0 victory in non-conference men's soccer action Tuesday evening in Ranger Stadium.

Drew out-shot the Fords 12-6, including 9-2 in the second half, but Michael Iacono made three saves for Haverford (6-3-3), ranked fifth in the most recent United Soccer Coaches Division III Mid-Atlantic Region poll.

Each team managed just one shot on goal in a defensive first half. In the second period, junior Nate Race had an excellent look for the Rangers in the 48th minute but was stopped on a sliding save from Iacono. Just over four minutes later, the Fords were awarded a corner kick from the left side. After the ball was initially deflected back into the corner, Nick Janelli sent the ball back into the box, where it was headed in by Skykes Cargile from the right post.

Drew would out-shoot the Fords 8-0 the rest of the way, with two coming off a corner kick in the 61st minute, but was unable to find the equalizer. Junior Cole Bosch fired a shot on frame on a breakaway in the 80th minute, and less than a minute later a rip from freshman Patrick Catillo with the goalie out of position was kicked away by a defender.

Junior Jake Marlowe made his second start of the season and made a pair of saves for the Rangers.

Drew (4-7-2) continues its season on Saturday, when it visits Moravian College at 4 p.m. in a Landmark Conference tilt starting at 4 p.m.
