BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Senior
Aidan Cserhat broke the Landmark Conference record for career goals, but Moravian College scored a pair of man-down goals 38 seconds apart in the 89th minute and the host Greyhounds stunned the Rangers 2-1 in Landmark Conference (LC) men's soccer play Saturday afternoon.
Moravian (9-4-1, 3-1 LC) was flagged for a red card in the 73rd minute and the Rangers took advantage six minutes later with Cserhat's record-breaking tally. He headed in a cross from senior
Matt Asante for his 45th career goal - one more than Gilbert Waso of Elizabethtown College posted from 2015-18. Amazingly, Cserhat accomplished the feat in less than three years after transferring to Drew in 2017.
The Greyhounds answered with a header of their own as David Steinbach scored with 1:46 remaining. Then with 1:08 on the clock, Akinori Mollenthiel scored the game-winner with a sliding shot off a free kick. Cserhat attempted a shot with just under a minute to go but it missed wide.
The two sides combined for just 10 shots in the first half, with the Greyhounds holding a 7-3 edge. Senior
Jason Adamo made three saves for the Rangers in the opening period.
Drew posted a 10-6 shot advantage in the second stanza, but that's when Michael Bone collected four saves for Moravian, including three after it received its red card.
Adamo finished with four saves for the Rangers while Bone notched five stops.
The two sides each finished with 13 shots while the Greyhounds posted a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Drew returns to Landmark Conference action on Wednesday, when it hosts the University of Scranton at 7 p.m.
