MADISON, N.J. - Junior
Tony Oliveira posted one goal and two assists, leading the Drew University men's soccer team to a 4-1 non-conference victory over cross-town rival FDU-Florham Wednesday evening.
The Rangers (6-9-2) led 1-0 at halftime, then broke it open with a pair of goals midway through the second period.
Oliveria had a hand in each of the first three goals for Drew, which out-shot the Devils 19-10 and yielded just three shots on goal.
Three Rangers posted their first collegiate goal, including freshman
Patrick Catillo, who handed the Rangers their early lead when he scored in the 17th minute. His tally followed a free kick, and Oliveira and senior
Tyler Kwaak were credited with assists.
The Rangers out-shot FDU 10-2 in the opening half, but Devil goalie Parker Malman stopped three shots to keep it a one-goal game.
Oliveira pushed Drew's lead to 2-0 in the 62nd minute, finishing off a pass from senior
Aidan Cserhat. It was Oliveira's first goal of the season and the second of his career.
Junior
Ryan LaRocca gave the Rangers a 3-0 cushion when he scored on a header in the 71st minute off a pass from Oliveira for his first collegiate goal. After FDU got on the scoreboard in the 81st minute, sophomore
Vaughn Paga added his first career goal, converting in the 88th minute to set the final score.
Sophomore
Calum Erlenborn started in net and did not face a shot on goal while playing the opening half for the Rangers. Freshman
Brendan Kerins played the second period and stopped two shots in his collegiate debut.
Drew closes out the season on Saturday, when it visits Susquehanna University at 1 p.m. in a Landmark Conference affair.
