WASHINGTON, D.C. - Drew shut out 20th-ranked Catholic in the first half, but but the Cardinals scored a 51st-minute goal and edged the Rangers 1-0 in a Landmark Conference (LC) men's soccer match Saturday afternoon.
Senior
Jason Adamo tied his career-high with eight saves for the Rangers (4-5-1, 0-1-1 LC), who were playing without leading scorer
Aidan Cserhat. Jack Long needed to make just two saves to earn the shutout for Catholic (10-1-1, 2-0 LC).
The Cardinals came out aggressive in the first half, outshooting Drew 7-0. But Adamo turned aside all three shots on goal in the period.
Catholic broke through on the first shot of the second stanza. Ben Alexander took a short cross and scored from the right side, slotting a shot inside the far post for his eighth goal of the year and what held up as the game-winner.
The Rangers would go on to out-shoot the hosts 8-4 over the remainder of the period, but Long made a pair of saves on shots from freshman
Drini Zenelaj in the 54th and 67th minutes. In the meantime, Adamo helped keep his team within striking distance, stopping Catholic's final five shots on goal.
Drew returns to Landmark Conference action next Saturday, when it hosts Elizabethtown College at 1 p.m.
