Fast Start Lifts Women's Soccer Over Ramapo

MADISON, N.J. - Drew struck for two goals over the opening 13 minutes and defeated Ramapo College 3-1 in a non-conference women's soccer match-up Wednesday evening at Ranger Stadium.

Junior Leah Dentale posted one goal and one assist to lead the Blue and Green, who evened their record at 3-3. The Roadrunners saw their three-game winning streak come to an end, falling to 4-2.

The Rangers yielded just five shots for the night, including just two that were on goal.

Dentale helped set up the Rangers' first goal, driving to the end line before sending a perfect cross to a wide-open Sydney Ziemba on the left side the box. Ziemba booted a shot into the net for her second career goal and what held up as the game-winner.

Eight minutes later, Dentale took a forward pass from junior Sarah Racine, drove toward the right post, and slanted a low shot past the goalie, marking her third goal in her last two games.

Defense controlled the remainder of the period and the Rangers carried their 2-0 lead into the intermission. Drew outshot Ramapo 7-3 in the opening period.

Neither side scored again until Ramapo's Kaitlyn Kelly connected from long range to make it 2-1 in the 69th minute. But just two minutes later, freshman defender Sam Kievit headed home a corner kick off the foot of classmate Emma Shatel, who had just checked into the game moments earlier.

The Rangers outshot the Roadrunners 8-2 in the second half.

Once again, freshmen Angela Accetturo and Anthi Panayides split the time in goal for the Rangers. Accetturo started and did not face a shot on goal in the opening half while Panayides made one save in the second half.

Drew continues its season on Tuesday, when they visit Arcadia University in a non-conference match-up starting at 7 p.m.
