Women's Soccer Blanks Goucher in Conference Opener

MADISON, N.J. - Junior Leah Dentale scored a goal in the 30th minute, and it was all the offense the Rangers would need as they defeated Goucher College 1-0 in their Landmark Conference (LC) opener Saturday afternoon in Ranger Stadium.

Drew (4-4, 1-0 LC), which has now won three of its last four games, outshot the Gophers 18-6 while earning its second shutout of the season. Freshman Angela Accetturo recorded two saves to earn her first collegiate clean sheet.

Christina Charikofsky made eight saves for Goucher (3-5, 0-1 LC).

Accetturo made a save in the fourth minute, but the Rangers would outshoot Goucher 7-3 over the remainder of the period. Drew put three shots on frame before Dentale broke through. Following a Drew corner kick, Dentale accepted a cross at the left post and ripped a shot that Charikofsky knocked down. With the keeper on the ground, Dentale tracked down the loose ball on the right side of the box and drilled it into a wide-open net for what held up as the game-winner. She has now scored four goals over her last four games.

The Rangers turned up their offensive pressure in the second half, when they outshot the Gophers 11-2. Junior Sarah Racine blasted a shot in the 54th minute that Charikofsky knocked down and smothered before senior Alexa Simon had an excellent look on a header minutes later that was also defended by the keeper. The Rangers would finish with five shots on frame for the period.

Accetturo made her second save in the 75th minute, and it would be the last shot the Rangers would allow on the day.

Drew continues its season on Wednesday, when it visits William Paterson in a non-conference match starting at 7 p.m.
