Aidan Cserhat scored a pair of goals late in the second half and the Drew University men's soccer team rallied to beat New York University 2-1 on the first day of the Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders Classic Saturday afternoon.
The Rangers (2-1) trailed 1-0 before Bethel picked an opportune time to score his first collegiate goal, striking in the 66th minute on assists from sophomore
Kuki Armenteros and senior
Nick Caicedo. Cserhat followed up with exactly 20 minutes on the clock, burying a penalty kick for what held up as the game-winner.
Senior
Jason Adamo made the lead stand up, coming up with a big save on a penalty kick in the 74th minute. He finished with two stops for the game.
The Violets (0-3), who received votes in the latest Division III national rankings, jumped to a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 17th minute. NYU finished a 5-3 edge in shots for the opening half, but the Rangers turned up the pressure in the second period, racking up an 8-3 shot advantage.
Drew takes on Pfeiffer University at noon on Sunday to close out tournament play.
