NEWARK, N.J. - Senior
forward
Aidan Cserhat posted his second career hat trick, lifting the Drew University men's soccer team to a 5-1 victory over Pfeiffer University at the Rutgers-Newark Brick City Classic Sunday afternoon.
With the win, the Rangers (3-1) finished 2-0 at the event after posting a 2-1 victory over New York University on Saturday. Drew and Rutgers-Newark both finished the tournament 2-0, but the Rangers were awarded the title by virtue of goal differential.
Cserhat
had a hand in each of the team's first four goals, assisting on the first before scoring three in a row. It was his second collegiate hat trick, as he also accomplished the feat in a 9-2 victory over FDU-Florham on Sept. 6, 2017.
Cserhat was named tournament MVP, and he was joined on the all-tournament team by freshman midfielder
Kyle Bethel, junior defender
Ryan LaRocca, and junior midfielder
Nate Race.
Race added one goal and one assist versus Pfeiffer while Bethel handed out his first two career assists. Senior
Jason Adamo made two saves to earn the victory.
The Blue and Green got on the scoreboard in the 22nd minute, when Race finished off a feed from Cserhat. Five minutes later, Cserhat found the back of the net, converting off passes from seniors
Nick Caicedo and
Matt Asante.
The Rangers piled up an 11-0 shot advantage in the opening period.
The Falcons cut the deficit in half with a goal in the 54th minute, but the Rangers restored their two-goal advantage in the 63rd minute, when Cserhat drilled in his second goal. Race and Bethel assisted on the tally.
Cserhat concluded his big day in the 71st minute, taking a pass from Bethel and scoring his fifth goal of the season and his fourth in two games.
The Rangers set the final score in the 83rd minute, when freshman
Mike Dilger scored his first career goal off an assist from freshman
Nathan Han.
Drew finished the day with an 18-8 shot advantage.
The Rangers return home on Wednesday, when they face Muhlenberg College at 7 p.m. in a non-conference outing.
