Bard Slips by Women's Soccer

MADISON, N.J. - Drew out-shot Bard 20-4, but the Raptors scored a goal midway through the second half and handed the Rangers a 1-0 setback in the final match of the Drew Fall Festival Sunday afternoon at Ranger Stadium.

The Rangers (1-3) controlled possession in the opening half, out-shooting the Raptors 8-0. One of the team's best looks came in the 28th minute, when freshman Ayla Lopez ripped a point-blank shot, but keeper Skylar Farmer made an impressive save.

Drew continued to pressure in the second half, and junior Sarah Racine hit the crossbar twice in the opening four minutes. Later in the period, junior Leah Dentale slotted a ball just right of the post after a perfect cross from Racine.

The Raptors broke through in the 69th minute, when Paige Sangston picked off a Drew pass from outside the box and drilled a high-arching shot into the net.

The Rangers attempted seven shots the rest of the way, but were unable to find the equalizer, as Farmer made five stops in the final 20 minutes. Drew had one final chance after gaining a corner kick in the closing seconds, but a Bard defender headed the ball to the keeper and the Raptors ran out the rest of the clock.

Freshman Angela Accetturo made a pair of saves inside the final nine minutes while playing the entire game in goal for Drew. Farmer finished with nine saves.

The Rangers continue their season on Saturday, when they visit Delaware Valley University at 7 p.m. in a non-conference match-up.
