ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Senior
Riley Collins posted 30 points, 10 assists, and six rebounds, leading the Drew University men's basketball team to a 92-75 Landmark Conference (LC) victory at Elizabethtown College on Saturday.
With the win, the Rangers (18-5, 9-3 LC) remained in a three-way tie for first place in the Landmark Conference standings, as Scranton and Susquehanna also both won on Saturday.
It was the second 30-point game of the season for Collins, who shot 6-for-11 from 3-point range. His 10 assists marked a season-high.Â
Sophomore
David Gervase also turned in an outstanding shooting performance, going 5-for-8 from beyond the arc to finish with 18 points. Freshman forward
Howard McBurnie, Jr. and junior forward
Lybrant Robinson added 13 points apiece while junior forward
Malachi Walker, Jr. grabbed eight rebounds.
Bryce Greene scored 17 points for the Blue Jays (11-11, 4-8 LC) while Connor Moffatt finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
The Rangers never trailed after opening the game on a 14-2 run, which ended with a dunk from Walker, a fast-break 3-pointer from Collins, and a fast-break lay-up from McBurnie. However, the Blue Jays whittled the deficit down to four and trailed just 23-19 with 8:12 left in the half. But the Rangers ended the period with a 10-4 spurt and carried a 33-23 lead into the locker room.
E-town stuck around for the first part of the second half pulled to within 50-43 with 12:21 left. But that's as close as the Blue Jays would get, and Gervase answered with back-to-back triples to push Drew's lead back to 13. The hosts were unable to get closer than 10 the rest of the game as the Rangers pulled away down the stretch, leading by as much as 21.
Drew continues its season on Wednesday, when it travels to Scranton in a key Landmark Conference match-up.
