Rangers Hold Off Stockton

MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University women's volleyball team won the first two sets and rallied to win a close fourth set en route to a 3-1 non-conference victory over Stockton University Thursday evening in Baldwin Gym.

Freshman Andrea Camacho-Tenreiro posted 15 kills and eight digs for the Rangers (15-5), who won their third match in a row and improved to 10-1 on their home hardwood. Classmate Ashley Carkhuff added eight kills, 16 digs, and a pair of aces for Drew while classmate Liberty Jackson notched seven kills. Freshman Jasmine Butler passed out 18 assists, freshman Lauren Gaza collected 10 digs and three aces, and sophomore Melina Christodoulou notched three blocks.

The Rangers never trailed in either of the first two sets. In the opener, they used a 7-1 spurt to go up 18-11; however, the Ospreys rallied to pull to within a point on four occasions late in the match. But Camacho-Tenreiro clinched the set with a kill.

The second set was also a nip-and-tuck affair, and Drew led just 19-17 before closing the match on a 6-1 run.

Stockton heated up in the third set, when it opened on a 7-1 run and gradually pulled away in a 25-11 victory.

The Rangers trailed most of the way in the final set and faced their largest deficit at 16-11, when Head Coach Alyssa Broccoli called a timeout. Drew promptly regrouped and ran off a 3-1 spurt, prompting a Stockton timeout. The Rangers continued to rally and tied it at 18-all before taking their first lead of the set at 20-19. It was tied at 22-22 before Drew captured the final three points on a pair of Osprey attack errors sandwiched around a Camacho-Tenreiro kill.

The Blue and Green continue their season on Saturday, when they head to York (Pa.) College for a tri-match. Drew takes on Neumann University at 1 p.m. and York at 3 p.m.
