MADISON, N.J. - Freshman
Kevin Kiernan headed in the game-winning goal in the 71st minute and the Drew University men's soccer team earned a 2-1 Landmark Conference (LC) victory over Goucher College on Senior Day in Ranger Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Rangers (5-7-1, 2-1-1 LC) trailed 1-0 in the 16th minute before rallying with the game's final two tallies.
The team's four seniors who are playing their final season at Drew were honored in a brief ceremony before the start of the game.
The Rangers now find themselves tied with Catholic for second place in the Landmark Conference standings with seven points.
The Gophers (5-8-2, 1-3 LC) went up 1-0 on Jeremiah Odubade's conference-leading 10th goal of the season. It remained a 1-0 game until senior
Brandon Jimenez scored on a header, slipping in a shot from sophomore
Matthew Agudelolo to make it a 1-1 game. A lightning delay held up the game in the 42nd minute, but the rest of the day was played without interruption.
The two sides then went over 40 minutes without a goal before Kiernan's game's winner, which he drilled in from the left post off Augudelo's pass from the right. It was Kiernan's sixth goal of the season and his third game-winner.
The Rangers out-shot Goucher 17-6 for the match, but Jeff Castro made eight saves for Goucher.
Senior
Calum Erlenborn played the final 74 minutes between the pipes for Drew and did not allow a goal while turning aside three shots. Sophomore
David Hoyt started in goal and was credited with one save before leaving with an injury.
Drew returns to Landmark Conference action on Saturday, when it hosts the University of Scranton at 7 p.m.
