Men's Soccer Takes Down Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Seeking their first Landmark Conference (LC) victory of the season, the Drew University men's soccer team achieved this goal via a 3-1 win at Susquehanna University on Saturday afternoon.

With this win, Drew improves to 4-4-1 (1-0-1 LC) on the season, while Susquehanna drops to 4-5-1 (0-1-1 LC).

Towards the end of the first half, the Rangers quickly broke the game wide open by scoring two goals within two minutes of each other.

The first came in minute 3:54 when sophomore Tyler Watson scored his first goal of the season with a flawless header in front of the goal. For his efforts, freshman Thomas Zurkowski earned the first assist of his collegiate career for setting up Watson with a perfectly placed corner kick.

Zurkowski's day was just getting started, however, as the midfielder would score Drew's second goal just two minutes later. After capturing graduate student Ryan LaRocca's throw-in directly in front of the net, Zurkowski fired a shot through traffic and snuck the ball just out of reach of the keeper to score his first career goal.

In the second half, the Rangers again added to their lead by taking advantage of a Susquehanna foul 10 minutes into the period. Senior defender Dan Bacon did the honors by positioning himself right under the free kick from sophomore Matthew Agudelo and promptly headed the ball to the vacant right side of the net.

The goal is the first of Bacon's career, while Agudelo earned his first assist on the play as well.

The Rangers' stingy back row allowed just four shots on goal for the afternoon, and sophomore goalkeeper David Hoyt stopped three of them to pick up his first career Landmark Conference victory.

The Rangers will play game two of their four-game road trip next week when they take on Rutgers-Newark on Wednesday at 7:30 pm in a non-conference matchup.
