Men's Soccer Topped by Rutgers-Newark

NEWARK, N.J. - The Drew University men's soccer team held Rutgers-Newark to one goal over the opening 85 minutes before the Scarlet Raiders scored a pair of late tallies for a 3-0 victory over the Rangers in non-conference men's soccer action Wednesday evening.

Facing a 22-shot attack, sophomore David Hoyt made a season-high six saves for the Rangers (4-5-1).

The Raiders (7-3-2) scored in the 33rd minute to break open a scoreless match. The Rangers would hold the hosts scoreless over the next 53 minutes before Rutgers-Newark scored a pair of insurance goals 31 seconds apart around the 86th minute.

Drew attempted five shots on goal but was unable to dent Raider keeper Andres Medina. Kevin Kiernan, Christian Tyson, Dan Bacon, Matthew Agudelo, and Vaughn Paga all put a shot on frame but could not capitalize.

The Rangers return to Landmark Conference action on Saturday, when it visits Catholic University at 4 p.m.
