NEWARK, N.J. - Despite freshman
Alexa Krause tying things up early in the second half, the Drew University women's soccer team couldn't hang on and was bested 3-1 by Rutgers-Newark in Wednesday night's non-conference matchup.
With the loss, the Rangers fall to 6-8-1 on the season, while the Raiders improve to 8-4-3.
Junior goalkeeper
Anthi Panayides had a busy day between the posts, facing 31 shots (11 on goal). She finished with a career-high eight saves.
As for Krause, she managed to get the Rangers on the board just over a minute into the second half. Charging into Raiders' territory, Krause broke away from the rest of the pack and corralled a short pass from
Rebecca Racine right on the edge of the box. Krause carried the ball a few more strides before firing it right past the oncoming keeper and to the lower left side of the vacated net to make it 1-1.
The goal was Krause's eight of the season, tying her with Racine for the team lead.
Ultimately, despite seven more shot attempts in the second half (15 on the day), the Rangers couldn't find the back of the net for the remainder of the match.
Drew returns to Ranger Stadium this Saturday at 2 p.m. for their final home game of the season when they take on Elizabethtown in a Landmark Conference tilt.
