MADISON, N.J. - In its final home game of the season, the Drew University women's soccer team came very close to keeping its Landmark Conference (LC) playoff hopes alive, but was ultimately stopped by Elizabethtown College in a 1-0 overtime loss Saturday afternoon in Ranger Stadium.
With the loss, the Rangers dropped to 6-9-1 (1-4-1 LC) and were eliminated from playoff contention. The Blue Jays improved to 7-6-2 (4-1-1 in LC) and clinched an LC postseason berth.
The Rangers did an excellent job holding off Elizabethtown's constant attack throughout regulation (19 total shots). Through the first two periods, junior goalkeeper
Anthi Panayides was perfect, stopping all six shots on goal.
On defense, freshman
Rylee Sant'Angelo, sophomore
Jessie Brannick and junior
Delaney Timm successfully held things down for most of the afternoon as each of them stayed in for the entire match.
Though both teams had several great chances to score throughout the match, in the end it was Elizabethtown's Sydney Reich who came up with the golden goal three and a half minutes into overtime.
The Rangers will play their season finale when they head to Bethlehem, Pa. to take on Moravian University at 1 p.m. in a Landmark Conference tilt.
