Women's Volleyball Earns First-Ever Landmark Conference Victory

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Drew University women's volleyball team earned its first-ever Landmark Conference (LC) victory with a 3-2 win at Moravian College Wednesday evening.

The Rangers, who improved to 17-6 (1-3 LC) in their inaugural season, bounced back from a first-set loss, winning 21-25, 25-18, 25-21, 23-25, 15-12.

Andrea Camacho-Tenreiro enjoyed a big night for Drew with 24 kills - including five in the decisive fifth set - to go with 19 digs, and four service aces. Ashley Carkhuff totaled 12 kills and 22 digs while Liberty Jackson threw down a season-high nine kills. Lauren Gaza posted 37 digs - the second-most by a Ranger this season. Shelby Weeden contributed 23 assists and 14 digs while Jasmine Butler registered 18 digs and eight assists. Kiara Vasquez also served up four aces.

The Greyhounds (11-13, 0-4 LC) led for most of the opening set after jumping to a 5-2 lead. In the second set, it was tied at 17-all before the Rangers closed on a 7-1 run. Drew also finished strong in the third set, ending on a 6-1 run to go up 2-1.

The Rangers trailed 21-16 in the fourth set before rallying to pull within one at 24-23. But the hosts scored the next point to send it to a fifth and final set.

The deciding stanza was an extremely tight affair in which neither side led by more than three. But the Rangers clinched the victory by finishing on a 4-2 run, with Camacho-Tenreiro ending the night with a kill.

The Blue and Green continue their season on Saturday, when they travel to Kean University for a tri-match with Arcadia University.
