MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University women's volleyball team rallied in all three sets, but came up on the short end of a 3-0 decision to Elizabethtown College in Landmark Conference (LC) action Wednesday evening in Baldwin Gym.
The Blue Jays, who won 25-20, 25-18, 25-19, remained undefeated (5-0) in the Landmark Conference and improved to 21-6 overall.
Freshman
Andrea Camacho-Tenreiro posted eight kills and 18 digs for the Rangers (18-8, 1-4 LC) while sophomore
Melina Christodoulou notched seven kills. Freshman
Ashley Carkhuff registered five kills and 14 digs.
In the opening set, Drew trailed 17-10, but stormed back with a 9-0 run to pull even at 19-all. It was a 20-20 match before the Blue Jays ended the set on a 5-0 run.
Elizabethtown started the second set on a 7-0 run and eventually led by as much as 10. However, the Rangers cut the deficit in half with a 5-0 spurt, capped by a Christodoulou kill that made it 21-16. But that's as close as it would get.
After trailing by as much as six in the third set, the Rangers threatened late once again, pulling to within one (20-19). But the visitors clinched it with a 5-0 run to end the match.
Freshman
Shelby Weeden contributed 11 assists and nine digs for Drew while classmate
Jasmine Butler handed out 10 assists. First-year
Lauren Gaza scooped 16 digs and served up a pair of aces.
The Rangers close out the season on Saturday, when they host Catholic University at 11 am. and Goucher College at 6:30 p.m. in a pair of Landmark Conference matches.
