Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Rangers Fall to Undefeated Wesleyan

MADISON, N.J. - Junior forward Howard McBurnie, Jr. posted game-highs of 19 points and 10 rebounds, but the Drew University men's basketball team dropped a 90-76 decision to undefeated Wesleyan University in a non-conference tilt Sunday afternoon in Baldwin Gym.

It was the fifth double-double of the season for McBurnie, who shot 8-for-15 from the field. Junior forward Michael Kane contributed 15 points on 3-of-5 3-point shooting for the Rangers (2-4) while senior guard Lybrant Robinson and senior forward Mathew Capozzoli netted 10 points apiece. Sophomore guard Andrew Turco scored nine points on 3-for-6 shooting from beyond the arc, and senior guard Miles Lewis registered seven points, five rebounds, and four assists in his first career start.

Sam Peek scored 17 points for the Cardinals (6-0), who had five players score in double figures.

The Rangers never led, but they trailed just 27-22 after McBurnie grabbed a steal and went coast to coast for a dunk with 6:43 left in the opening half. Kane followed up with a put-back a minute later to make it a three-point game, and the Rangers were down six (35-29) with 2:43 left in the opening half following a lay-up from sophomore guard Malcolm Newman. But Wesleyan closed the period on an 8-2 run, including a 3-pointer in the closing seconds, to assume a 43-31 lead at the intermission.

The Cardinals continued to pull away early in the second half and bumped their lead to 20 (61-41) with 15:47 left. A 3-pointer from Turco cut the gap to 14 (70-56) with 10:13 remaining, but the Rangers were unable to draw any closer until the final two minutes.

Drew plays its Landmark Conference opener on Saturday, when it visits Goucher College at 2 p.m.
