SCRANTON, Pa. - The Drew University men's soccer team blanked the University of Scranton 1-0 on Saturday to earn its first victory of its expanded non-traditional season.
Sophomore Lucas Portadin scored in the first half to provide the Rangers with all the scoring they would need.
Freshman goalkeeper David Hoyt came up with a big stop for Drew in the first half, turning aside on a shot on a free kick to preserve the shutout.
After their official fall seasons were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in February the Landmark Conference Presidents' Council approved a plan for fall sports teams to conduct an expanded non-traditional season of up to four contests against fellow Landmark institutions.
The Landmark Conference determined that all of the contests are considered scrimmages and will not count as official NCAA or Landmark Conference games. In addition, Landmark standings will not be kept and official statistics will not be recorded.
Drew closes out its spring season on Friday, when it hosts Moravian College at 3:30 p.m.
